Parish Council Chairman. You may be aware that Cllr Chris Charlton resigned from the Parish Council last month and we wish to express our great thanks to him for his significant contribution to the village over the 7 years of his tenure. Chris was involved in so many aspects of our environment in this lovely village that included, but were not restricted to:- Planning Applications; Neighbourhood Plan; Emergency Plan; Parish Financial matters; Application for and success in receiving funding from outside organisations; Flooding. He will be very much missed by the remaining Councillors.
At the Parish Council meeting on 10th June, Councillor Barry Ross was unanimously voted in as our new Chairman. Barry and his wife Chris have been residents of Rippingale for over 3 years and he has been a Parish Councillor since November 2022. He has said that he hopes he can continue supporting the village and its residents in an open and inclusive way. He also asks that the residents engage with the PC in any way they can, as not to do so, can only result in the village stagnating and not being sustainable in the future.
Residents Involvement - We Need You. The meeting on 10th June at the Village Hall was well attended by the public but it appears that some believe that the residents can only have an input at the AGM. This is NOT the case.
Public Forums are noted on the Agenda for each monthly meeting and these are posted on the Notice Board(s), but perhaps the Parish Council needs to highlight these opportunities for residents to express their concerns and ideas. We need, and welcome, engagement from the residents so that we can jointly try to improve our environment and village life.
Please bear in mind however, that the Public Forums at these meetings are time limited. The formal PC meetings are primarily convened to make decisions and the Chairman will ensure that the Public sections do not take over those proceedings.
The format will be for the public to briefly raise issues in a Public Forum held before the formal meeting. Any issue that may need deeper discussion will be dealt with at either a separate Committee meeting (formal) or by setting up a Working Group (less formal). Once the formal PC meeting is closed, the Public will have a second opportunity to comment on the preceding formal meeting content.
The change of Chairman has taken up a lot of time over the past month so this report on the Parish Council’s activities will be short.
Rippingale Web-site. Please look up our village Web-site by searching for “Rippingale Web-site” – yes, it’s that easy! The site already has lots of information about the village but will, hopefully in the very near future, have even more detail about what we are doing and what is happening in the village.
We need more Councillors. The PC is investigating the use of Social Media platforms to address the shortfall of councillors, so we ask that you keep your eyes open! We can make a difference – if you get involved!
If you are interested in knowing more, please contact any of the Councillors or the Parish Clerk, Laura Davies. Contact details - rippingalepc@gmail.com 07375 364742
Hospital Car Scheme. Chris Ross continues to administer this great service but needs help from drivers who are willing to spend a little time helping those who do not have easy access to transportation to attend medical appointments in the area. The more available drivers we have on the list, the fewer times each will be called upon. All drivers can claim 65p per mile travelled as compensation for provision of this service, please contact the scheme administrator, Chris Ross, on 07806 327362.
Jubilee Playing Field storage and/or Event facility. Only two responses were received from residents following the item in the May Newsletter, both of which did not support the proposed “Pavilion” in its present form. Councillors decided that a separate Working Group will be formed to discuss and decide how to find out what the residents of Rippingale actually want regarding facilities on the field. In any case, there is a need for secure and safe storage on the site for village equipment. What we do not know is what residents would like to see the field used for; dog walking/sports field/flower gardens, are only some of the suggestions put forward to date. Any project we undertake must be affordable with, or without external funding or donations. The existing pledges of money do have expiry dates, but we must not allow that to force us to undertake a project that we cannot financially support in the future.
Village maintenance of Hedges, Dykes & Verges. The Parish Council manages the maintenance of hedges, dykes and verges throughout the village but is not necessarily responsible for carrying out the required maintenance work. Residents have raised concerns over some areas such as the hedges along East Street, Station Street, the Storm Pond at Millers Close and behind Siskin Close. We will be identifying responsibility for all such areas and take any steps necessary to have them maintained to a good standard. After all, the appearance of these areas defines the character of our village and its residents. Your help in reporting inadequate areas will help us keep the village looking good.
Planning Applications. Outline Planning application for up to 6 bungalows behind 30 East Street was approved by SKDC last month, despite strong objections from residents and the Parish Council. We are due to set up a Working Group to discuss future options in this regard.

Rippingale Friendship Club. Once again Rippingale Friendship Club have had another successful outing. This time we went to St. Ives on Monday 3rd June which was market day. We first made a brief visit to Houghton Mill for a Coffee Stop. This is a beautiful setting, and everyone said that they would have liked to explore the village.
We then made the short journey to St. Ives. The weather was for once fairly warm, was that Summer? It is a street market and there were many stalls selling a wide variety of goods. There was a Craft Market which was held in the Corn Exchange Building. River Boat trips were also available.
We have had a variety of meetings recently.
A frenzied Beetle Drive, a more sedate afternoon of Musical Bingo and by the time you read this we will have been entertained by an afternoon of artistic prowess by Ben Connell a local caricature artist. We are also going to be treated to an Afternoon Tea with entertainment and an afternoon of Curling or Cards [or both]. If any of these appeals to you, then why not join us at Rippingale Village Hall. Meetings begin at 1.30 until 3.30. During the meeting we hold a raffle, followed by 4 games of Bingo. Tea and Biscuits are served mid-way through the afternoon. Why not come along and give us a try.
Our future meetings:-
• 10th July - Curling and Cards
• 24th July - Beetle Drive
• 7th August - Memory Board and I Packed My Bag. Designed to keep the old grey matter going.
• 21st August - Who or What am I???? again, something to think about.
• 4th September - A free choice of our stock of Games and Puzzles.
• 18th September – Soup & Sandwich or Soup & Sausage Roll.

Rippingale and District WI (RADWI) report for June 2024. This month we met at Sleaford Museum which is a small museum but full of interest. Mark took us round the themed exhibits and recounted interesting and amusing stories. We saw a cabinet of old toys including a small boot, one of a pair given to Billy Bristow for 100% school attendance in 1950. He was given the boots because, incredibly, he went to school barefoot!
There was a case full of beautifully sewn peg dolls, a case of findings by detectorist Ray Halliwell and historical information about old Sleaford -so named because in Roman times the old roman road now known as King St. crossed the river Slea - hence Sleaford! There was much much more and Mark told us that exhibits are constantly being changed.
We enjoyed a cup of tea and cake and then got down to WI business which included an account of NFWI Annual Meeting, notice of outings to Tolethorpe, Harlaxton Manor and afternoon tea in member Beryl’s garden.
Next month on the 4th July at 2pm we shall be meeting in Lianne’s garden where we will hear an account by her husband of his experiences in creating gardens at Chelsea and Hampton Court and enjoy some afternoon tea. If you would like to join us contact Janet on 07552 699848 for further information or go online at RADWI@btinternet.

NEXT SERVICE - SUNDAY 30th JUNE 11am EUCHARIST
Coffee Morning. This last one we held was very successful considering we were a bit short on numbers but having said that we had some new faces which was great. The children’s area was made good use of and brought down the average age considerably. Most of us are all big kids at heart anyway.
Back to our regular supplier of vegetables, all off the local Fen and so very fresh! A lovely selection of cakes etc for sale and available to have free with your coffee.
So, a great way to start your Tuesday morning so please come and join us.
Next Coffee Morning Tuesday 2nd July 2024 10.15am Onwards. Secretly I'm led to believe that Scones with Strawberries and Cream will be available with your coffee this time!!
200 Club. We are looking for a NEW ORGANISER and if anybody would like to do this, please contact Christine or Jonathan. Christine has worked tirelessly over the last number of years to keep this going but the time has come for a someone else to take over. Many thanks to Christine for running this so efficiently.
Christine will continue to help whoever at the start to make the transition easier. This a very good fund raiser for the Church, I call it our "Bread and Butter" income so has become a very important part of our revenue and should not be lost. The position needs to be filled by August/September
Contact Christine 01778 441211 to discuss further.
