Young people of Rippingale we need your opinion! The Parish Council are looking at ways we can make
our village a great place to live for all ages. A suggestion has been made to fit a basketball basket within the
tennis court area to provide a space for 3 on 3 basketball – this uses a small court.
This will not interfere with the tennis court layout. We are looking into a way the court area can be booked
and keys provided, to ensure fairness of use and accountability of users for the condition of the court area.
However, we need to gauge the interest of our teens and younger adults. So please either email your
support to rippingalepc@gmail.com or go the village Facebook page to answer the poll!
Have your say – this is your village!

A date for your diary – September 14 th . Please do come along to our GARAGE SALE on September 14 th
from 11am to 3pm.There will be plenty of stalls so no end of chances to find that ‘odd little treasure’.
There will be maps of the village showing the sites of the stalls and these will be available from the church for
a small donation.
We will be serving tea and cakes in the church and there will also be a cake stall as well as a Bric-A-Brac
stall and some more garage stalls.
We look forward to seeing you on the day and everyone is very welcome.

Rippingale and District WI (RADWI) monthly report. This month we met in Rippingale Village Hall to try
our hand at flower arranging with Pat Gray. She asked to bring along some flowers. some greenery, a
decorative plant pot and some balls of spare wool! We were all a bit mystified about the wool but all was
revealed when Pat showed us how to wind the wool around the two outer edges of a copper ring and then
criss-cross it across the centre to form both a decorative edging to our arrangement and a support for the
stems.
It was then a case of working from the outside in a circular fashion with the flatter plants building up to the
tallest ones near the centre and reserving the very tallest for the centre. We were all amazed and pleased
with our efforts and everyone made a lovely centrepiece.
As it was our president Rebecca's birthday, we celebrated it with tea and birthday cake and she was given a
bouquet. Janet won the raffle and members looked at the flyers for future outings and competitions.
The next meeting will be held in Rippingale Village Hall on 5th September from 2pm-4pm when David
Hughes will be recounting some ' Typewriter Tales' which should provide us with a laugh. If you would like to
join us please come along (£4.50 for visitors) where you will be made welcome, or ring Janet on
07552699848 or go to our website at radwi@btinternet.com.

Rippingale Friendship Club. Sadly, our recent meetings have not been as well attended as usual due to
illness, hospital appointments, operations and holidays.
We have had a Beetle Drive, which as usual was hilarious. At our last meeting two of the ladies played cards.
The rest of the ladies and one gentleman decided to just sit and chat.
We desperately need more gentlemen so if this is something you might be interested in, then why not pop
along to Rippingale Village Hall.
Meetings are held every other Wednesday afternoon and begin at 1.30 until 3.30. During the meeting we
hold a raffle, followed by 4 games of Bingo. Tea and Biscuits are served mid-way through the afternoon. Why
not come along and give us a try.
Our future meetings: -
 21 st August - Who or What am I???? Again, something to think about.
 4 th September - A Free Choice of our stock of Games and Puzzles.

Coffee Morning. You would expect sometime at this time of year, we would be lucky enough to sit outside.
But no chance, again we had to be in the Church due to annoying little showers and wind.
It was a good morning with refreshments a plenty, all freshly baked with most of them cooked earlier that
morning.
It was pointed out to me by David Dickinson our supplier a lot of the vegetables were still growing up to 7am
that morning as well. So, what could be better everything very fresh, and harvested at peek perfection no air
miles!!
Now if you haven't been to one of our Coffee Mornings now is the time to reconsider your first Tuesday of the
month plans.
Next Coffee Morning Tuesday September 3 rd 10.15am. We look forward to seeing you young or old, new
or a regular a warm welcome awaits.
We will be having our Harvest Festival service on Friday 4 th October 6pm followed by a supper within the
Church. Please make a note in your diary to join us arrangements will be announced later.

Parish Council News

Chairman – Cllr Barry Ross; chairmanrpc4@gmail.com 07740 151601

Parish Clerk (General enquiries) – Laura Davies: rippingalepc@gmail.com 07375 364742

This month your Councillors thought they would highlight what they believe to be important to residents now.
i.e.
 Hedges
 Vandalism
 Road repairs
Hedges. It’s been an unusually wet spring and hedges have grown so much that many of the hedges
throughout the village have been seen to be in an unacceptable and unkempt state. The Parish Council
decided to take pro-active steps to get as many of these hedges cut back into an acceptable and cared for
condition.
However, many of these hedges are not actually the responsibility of the PC to maintain but, in many cases,
it is the property owners who must keep their hedges trimmed so as not to cause obstruction of footpaths etc.
Residents are reminded that it is their responsibility to cut both sides of their hedges, especially where they
border a public right of way or public area. With this in mind, the PC asks that all residents who have hedges
that run alongside footpaths and/or border the playing field, keep these in good order at all times.
Vandalism. We have seen an increase in vandalism in the village and your Parish Council is considering
how to monitor vulnerable areas to try to identify the perpetrators so that they can be reported to the Police
and may entail the installation of CCTV cameras.
It is not always serious physical damage that we have to deal with, such as the mechanical destroying of one
of the child swing seats, but sometimes simply a misuse of village resources.
We ask that residents use the facilities for the purposes for which they were intended. E.g. Only playing
Tennis on the Tennis Court. The Parish Council are committed to maintaining the Tennis Courts for their
intended use and may have to return to using a key only padlock for access rather than the combination lock
that is presently being abused.
These mindless acts of malicious damage and disrespect for our community are impacting our village life and
also add to the costs of maintaining valuable and well used village assets.
The Parish Council ask that all residents remain vigilant and report ALL acts of vandalism or misuse of
village facilities to the Police directly as well as to your Parish Councillors. The Police have advised that they
can only build a case to be investigated if they receive multiple complaints & reports, so please remain
vigilant and tell us when you witness any unacceptable behaviour.
Please let your Councillors know if there is anything that you feel they need to address on your behalf.
The monthly Parish Council meetings are a good way to raise awareness of matters that are important to
you. Councillors will take all issues seriously and do their best to continue to improve our lives in this lovely
village.
Road Repairs. We reported the poor condition of the surface of Station Street at the entrance to the
Allotments and can now report that repairs have been completed.
Please report any similar issues to “Fix my Street” and advise the Parish Council that you have done so. In
this way we can get results!

Other Matters. Here is a list of some of the things that the Parish Council are also working on and we ask for
your comments: (via e-mail or Facebook)
 New storage unit on the Playing Field
 A suggestion to add a Basketball post, hoop and net in the Tennis Court
 Moving the 30mph signs on the West end of Station Street and on High Street near to the A15
 Pressing Anglian Water to investigate the drainage system(s) within the village that does not seem to
cope with high rainfall conditions
 Provision of a water supply to the allotments
 Identifying land ownership in and around the village
 Changes to the layout/format/content of the Newsletter
 General maintenance of village equipment (play area; benches; signs etc).
Please let your Councillors know of any issues that you feel need addressing in and around the Village. We
are available by e-mail, telephone and through our own Facebook pages. Your involvement is vital if we are
to continue to have a great village to live in.
