Coffee Morning. While we were setting up the tables, we considered putting some outside, but this idea was
abandoned as when the clouds appeared and with a stiff breeze it was quite chilly. However, it is nice to think
that sitting outside on a sunny morning will soon be possible. As usual there was a good choice of local
vegetables, cakes to consume and freshly baked rolls. Good local products at favourable prices.
The Church is now spotlessly clean thanks to a very keen and enthusiastic team of cleaners.
A very big thank to you all.
Next coffee morning, Tuesday 7
th May from 10.15am onwards in the Church everybody welcome

Row Garden Allotment Group. The Tabletop Sale held on 30th March in Village Hall was a success with over
£200 made through sales of refreshments, Bric a Brac and hire of tables for individuals. Thanks to all who
donated and helped on the day. We hope to provide some other events and in particular there will be an Open
Day held at the Rippingale Allotments on Sunday 18th August 2024. This coincides with National Allotment
Week. All will be welcome, and we will provide details through the Newsletter and Facebook nearer the time.
The weather seems to have improved over the past couple of weeks which means that the plots are coming
alive again and it is great to see new and familiar faces getting ready for another busy season. A rotovator and
strimmer are available to Allotment Group Members for some of the heavier tasks if needed.
Due to the weather, everything seems a little behind this year so it’s not too late if anyone feels like taking on
one of the vacant plots. These are available through the Parish Council. (Laura Davies
rippingalepc@gmail.com Tel: 07375 364742.).
The installation of a water supply to the allotments is ongoing and we hope plot holders will be able to take
advantage of this in the not-too-distant future. We have experienced the challenge of long periods without rain
over the past couple of years and whilst everyone collects rainwater in various tanks it’s surprising how thirsty
a plot load of fruit, vegetables and flowers can be!
London Marathon Support and Encouragement. As I sit here just 7 days before the London Marathon, I
would like to take this opportunity to thank all the villagers who have been so supportive with their
encouragement if they have seen me out running over the wet and windy weather throughout the winter.
Stupidly, I mentioned at work that I had always wanted to run the London Marathon (well if you’re going to
run one, it might as well be a big one) and suddenly I was given a charity place to fundraise for work. I knew
marathon training was tough and arduous, but it is nice to receive some lovely comments of support as I drag
myself back into the village after trips around the wilds of Lenton, Ingoldsby, Edenham, Grimsthorpe or
Ropsley.
In case people didn’t realise, I work for Deafblind UK as their School Liaison Officer supporting children who
have sight and hearing impairments to access a full and positive experience in mainstream schools. This
includes advocating for the young people as well as training the school staff about how they can provide the
most appropriate support for each young person. Deafblind UK support anyone with both sight and hearing
impairments and also provides awareness talks to groups and businesses to help them understand the
challenges of this unique and isolating condition. Deafblindness has been even more isolating over the past
few years whilst our faces have been covered up and social distancing and no touching has been the norm.
Many of our members have been confined to their homes with no interaction with their usual social groups or
even individual visitors. We are a very small charity and rely heavily on donations and fundraising so if
anyone could spare the price of a cuppa, I would be most grateful. I hope to do the charity proud during the
marathon, which may have already happened when you receive this newsletter. If not, feel free to track
number 33836 and give me a cheer on Sunday 21st April.
Hopefully this QR code should provide a link to our fundraising if you could spare any change. (PS I’m
definitely the Tortoise of the pair).
Thank you, Carolyn

Rippingale Friendship Club. On the 3rd April we were entertained with a fascinating talk by Nick Williar
about his travels around the world photographing wildlife. He has been a wildlife photographer for many
years and has travelled to many places which are inaccessible to all but the privileged few. His photographs
were stunning and his accompanying talk riveting. This was part 1 of his talk and he will be returning on 16th
October for part 2. This meeting was very well attended, and we even had a small boy and his mother who
had seen it advertised in Morton. You are always welcome to come along to a meeting and see for yourself.
We were treated to Hot Cross Buns with our tea. Well, it was only just after Easter and they were delicious.
Our future meetings are:-
01.05.24 Fish and Chip Lunch (pre ordered) and come dressed for the Seaside.
15.05.24 Beetle Drive – always popular and very competitive at times.
29.05.24 Musical Bingo and Irish Bingo.
12.06.24 Demonstration by Ben Connell a local caricature artist.
26.06.24 Afternoon Tea with entertainment.
At all our meetings there is a raffle, followed by 4 games of Bingo. Tea and Biscuits are served mid-way
through the afternoon. Come on, give us a try.
We begin our programme of Day Trips with our outing to Bury St. Edmunds on Wednesday 24th April. This
was advertised last month. Future outings are Monday 3rd June when we go to Houghton Mill and St. Ives.
Then on Tuesday 30th July we are off to Skegness. Everyone is welcome to join us on our outings. The cost
is usually £18 if paid before, but £20 if paid on the coach. This is to avoid Bob having to find change for
people. He has requested that the money be put into an envelope with your name on the outside. We hold a
raffle on the coach to raise funds which allow us to keep the costs down. Please bring a wrapped raffle prize
with you on the day. There are several Pick up Points between Bourne and Billingborough, reversed if going
south.

Post Office. Rippingale does not have a dedicated Post Office, but there is a part-time facility run from the premises
of The Bull Inn. The current opening times are:
Monday, Tuesday & Thursday 2.00pm to 4.00pm
There are reports that this service may be run down due to low use by residents. It would be a pity to lose
this important amenity, so please make use of it when you can.
Dog waste. Incidents continue to be reported of some owners allowing dogs to foul waste around the
Village. This is an unhygienic and unnecessary practice. All dog owners should retrieve and bag their pets’
waste and dispose of it in one of the many bins around the Village. Residents can report incidents of dog
fouling to SKDC online, to identify dog owners who do not pick up waste after their dogs in public places
- https://pre.southkesteven.gov.uk/reportdogfouling.
Dog fouling is an environmental crime. The law allows SKDC Environmental Crime Enforcement Officers to
give anyone seen not clearing up after their dog an on-the-spot fine, a fixed penalty notice (FPN), currently
£100.
Vacancy for Parish Councillors. There remain two vacancies for Parish Councillors by co-option. This role
is stimulating and fulfilling but not onerous. We are seeking volunteers of any skills and background, who
think they could contribute to administering the Village. If you are interested in supporting your Village, and
would like greater information, please contact me. To be eligible, you must be over 18, on the electoral role
and have lived or worked within 3 miles of the Parish for at least 12 months.
Hospital Car Service. The HCS relies on volunteer drivers to effectively run the system and transport
patients to their medical appointments. For various reasons the HCS now requires replacement volunteer
drivers to efficiently administer the service. Drivers, who need to be properly insured, are fully recompensed
with a 65p a mile allowance. If you have the spare time and wish to volunteer for this very worthwhile support
role, please contact the scheme administrator, Chris Ross, on 07806 327362. Please note the HSC is for
personal medical related use only.
Allotments. The Parish Council maintains a number of allotments near the entrance to the Village off Station
Street. Tending an allotment is a healthy and relaxing way to grow cheaper and delicious produce. The plots
are available for rent to Rippingale residents only, at a reasonable cost. There is a thriving allotments
association which provides advice and assistance. Please contact the Parish Clerk for more detail.
