Row Garden Allotment Group. We are pleased to announce that our annual Open Day will go ahead on Sunday 18th August 2024, from 12.00 until 16.00 at the Allotment field, (follow Station Street out of village towards the A15 and we are on the right). Everyone is welcome to join us. There will be children’s activities, a bouncy castle and tombola.

Refreshments will be available including homemade cake, burgers, hotdogs, tea, coffee and soft drinks. There will also be a stall selling fresh produce from the allotments.

If you are interested in renting a plot or just of a nosey persuasion, then please join us to explore the allotments or chat with some of the plot holders. We are lucky as a village to have access to such an amenity and the opportunity to grow a range of fruit, vegetables and flowers and know exactly where they have come from! Throw in the obvious benefits of fresh air and a good excuse to be somewhere else on sunny weekends or weekday evenings and you may feel like having a go with your own plot.

Although the plots are rented out by the Parish Council, the Row Garden Allotment Group was set up to represent plot holders and provide benefits such as access to manure and   opportunities to borrow heavy duty equipment. We have an active membership that seeks to maintain and improve Rippingale allotment provision alongside the Parish Council. We are members of the National Allotment Association which also provides benefits for plot holders. We are currently working with the Parish Council to deliver mains water to the allotments. The aim of this event is to promote the Rippingale Allotments in a friendly and inclusive way and hopefully raise some funds for the group. In case you’re interested, National Allotment Week runs from August 12th – 18th.

We look forward to welcoming you all on Sunday 18th August.

Please note that this will be a “cash only” event and all proceeds go to the Row Garden Allotment Group.

Rippingale Garage Sale - Up-Date. Please don’t forget to book you stall for our garage sale on September 14th 11am to 3pm. If, however you live on the outskirts of the village and perhaps feel that you are probably a bit “out on a limb”, there are stalls available for hire within the church.

There will be maps available in the church on the day for visitors, showing all the locations of the stalls in the village.

The cost of a stall is £5.00, so please contact either Brenda Donaldson on 01778 440131 or Erica Field-Lucas on 01778 440738 to book one.

Rippingale and District WI (RADWI) monthly report. This month Lianne invited us to her lovely garden where her husband, Brian, told us about his experiences designing and building gardens for Hampton Court and Chelsea flower shows. Once the decision is made 6 months before then follows the process of designing the garden in great detail before submitting it. If it is selected, then the real hard work starts building up to a frantic 10 days before the opening to get the garden to a perfect condition. it sounds exhausting especially waiting to see if a medal is awarded.
Congratulations to Brian for winning Gold, Silver-gilt and Silver medals, None of us had appreciated the amount of work, effort and money that goes into producing an award winning garden.

A lovely afternoon tea followed prepared by Lianne and Phyll and the weather kept fine and sunny, if rather windy! The raffle was drawn, and we heard about the forthcoming trip in August to Harlaxton Manor along with information about the Make and Bake Show; the Lincolnshire Ladies Lunch; a visit to Ropsley Narrow- Gauge railway; the Federation Quiz and Decorate a Pot - activities organised by Lincolnshire South Federation.

Our next meeting will be in Rippingale Village Hall at 2pm on Thursday, 1st August where we will be flower arranging. If you would like to join us, please phone Janet on 07552 699848 or go online at RADWI@btinternet.com

Rippingale Friendship Club. We were recently treated to a wonderful Afternoon Tea which was catered for by one of our members and her helpers. It was very well attended, and everyone said that it was as good as any they had paid £30.00 for, better in fact, ours was just £5.00. Our subsequent meeting was an afternoon of Curling or Cards. Everyone opted for either cards or Scrabble and the curling equipment was redundant. Sound good to you, then why not join us at Rippingale Village Hall. Meetings begin at 1.30 until 3.30. During the meeting we hold a raffle, followed by 4 games of Bingo. Tea and Biscuits are served mid-way through the afternoon. Why not come along and give us a try.
Our proposed trip to Skegness was cancelled in the end due to lack of participants. Perhaps you could boost the numbers on our next trip which is planned for Wednesday 11th September and will be a mystery trip. By then the little darlings will be back at school. Another contributor to the lack of interest in Skegness. We have local pick-up points between Billingborough and Bourne. The cost is just £18.00, so why not come and join us.
Our future meetings:-
7th August Memory Board and I Packed My Bag. Designed to keep the old grey matter going.
21st August Who or What am I???? Again, something to think about.
4th September A Free Choice of our stock of Games and Puzzles.
18th September Soup and Sandwich or Soup and Sausage Roll.
Future outings Wednesday 11th September – Mystery Trip.
Thursday 31st October – Ely and Mulberry Farm

Coffee Morning. We were hoping to sit outside but this year’s summer has other thoughts! Being this time of year, we carried on regardless and still had our scones topped with strawberries and cream as well as our freshly baked cakes. Fresh vegetables off the Local Fen at this period of the season doesn't get much better and are still damp having been only cut minutes before delivery. So please come and join us.
Next Coffee Morning Tuesday 6th August 10.15am

200 Club. Now is the time to join the 200 club as the year runs from 1st Sept – 31st August. Subscriptions, continue to be £20 for the year are collected in August by our collectors who we are very grateful to, ready for the draw in September.
Half the money raised helps for the running of the Church (insurance, water, electricity etc) and the other half goes back in prize money. A good way of supporting the Church and a chance of winning money!!There are several numbers available so please contact Christine or Jonathan if you would like to become a new member. We look forward to hear from you. 01778 441211

Church Fete. We were so lucky with the weather and with the communities support it was a very successful event. The whole atmosphere was fantastic with Eric Jessop cutting the ribbon to declare the Fete open. Opening speeches was difficult as these were drowned by "Baaring" (Lambs) part of the Fete or was this there way of having a say.

A big thank you to our very hard-working stall holders and last but not least to you all for your generosity in supporting us on the day. All the money raised will go towards improving the facilities within the Church. You don't have to be part of the church to support our social events everybody is really welcome.

11am EUCHARIST 30th JUNE. It was great to have a service after such a long break taken by Rob Vartey.
A really lovely service with coffee, biscuits and a chat at the end. The icing on the cake or should I say biscuit, was that the service was extremley well attended. Many thanks in making it so worthwhile.

Hospital Car Service. The HCS relies on volunteer drivers to effectively run the system and transport patients to their medical appointments. For various reasons the HCS now requires replacement volunteer drivers to efficiently administer the service. Drivers, who need to be properly insured, are fully recompensed with a 65p a mile allowance. If you have the spare time and wish to volunteer for this very worthwhile support role, please contact the scheme administrator, Chris Ross, on 07806 327362.

Allotments. The Parish Council maintains a number of allotments near the entrance to the Village off Station Street. Tending an allotment is a healthy and relaxing way to grow cheaper and delicious produce. The plots are available for rent to Rippingale residents only, at a reasonable cost. There is a thriving allotments association which provides advice and assistance. Please contact the Parish Clerk for more detail
We are increasingly appalled at the incidents of vandalism in the village, both to private and to community assets.

Vandalism. We are sometimes asked: - “How does the Parish Council spend its budget”, a question that often comes from the residents.  Unfortunately, repairing damage is one of the items we must pay for.  Each act of criminal damage affects the whole community.

We have recently had to replace a cradle swing, which was severely cut and damaged.   More recently, we have repaired damage to the fence and signs around the playground. This area seems prone to acts of vandalism. There has also been a case of some young people climbing onto the building at the Jubilee Playing Fields.

We thank those that have brought it these issues to our attention so that we could repair them as soon as we could.  In the above cases, the exposed sharp edges and nails presented a safety risk to adults, children, and animals.

We would urge all residents to report acts of criminal damage, and if possible, obtain photographic or video evidence if they see a crime being committed.

Your Parish Council are determined to ensure that these sorts of actions are met with consequences for the perpetrators, as they affect the whole community.

Penalties for criminal damage depend on the circumstances. However, if the damage caused is under £2,500, a fine of £2,500 or a sentence of 3 months imprisonment can be imposed. The perpetrator could also have a criminal record, which can affect his or her future employment.

Please can we ask everyone to be vigilant.
